This therapeutic book club series draws on thoughtfully chosen books to guide readers inward through the themes of relationship and community in ways only. It offers a calm, reflective space where stories support personal growth and deeper connection.

Alchemy's Therapy Group+ Book Club Series

The Book:

Emerging adulthood is a distinct developmental stage, not just a bridge to “real” adulthood. In Quarterlife, Satya Doyle Byock presents a framework for understanding the challenges people face in their 20s and 30s, emphasizing individuation: developing a self independent of outside pressures. The book outlines the core pillars of that growth: separating from the past, listening to one’s inner voice, building a foundation for stability, and integrating these insights into a renewed sense of wholeness. She argues that embracing this period of deep self-discovery is essential to building an authentic, fulfilling life.

The Group Therapy:

In this therapeutic group facilitated by Hannah Hurley, LSWAIC, MPH we will use the book Quarterlife to facilitate conversation and community. Through storytelling, dream analysis, shadow exploration, self-reflection, and group dialogue, we’ll work to transmute crisis or inertia into growth and deeper self-understanding. Our focus will be on balancing stability and meaning in our lives by tending soulfully to our personal unconscious, where untapped creativity and meaning reside.

Hannah is currently completing her first year of training under Satya Doyle Byock at the Salome Institute of Jungian Studies in Portland, OR. There will possibly be an opportunity for a Q&A with the author at the end of our reading.

Land Aknowlegment

I live and practice on the ancestral lands of the Nooksack, Lummi, Semiahmoo, and other Coast Salish peoples in what is now called Bellingham, WA, and I honor their enduring presence, sovereignty, and deep cultural heritage with respect and gratitude. Acknowledging that my presence here is part of a larger history of colonization, I invite you to learn more about how the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe are working to protect water rights—and how you can support them:
